Description

When a wound is too large or too serious for a standard low-adherent pad, the combine dressing is the correct tool. A combine dressing — also called an abdominal pad or combined dressing — is a thick, highly absorbent sterile dressing designed to manage wounds with significant bleeding or exudate, protect the site from contamination, and stay in place until professional medical care is available.

The AeroWound Combine Dressing is sterile, hypoallergenic, and individually packaged — ready to apply directly to a serious wound without preparation. A required inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits and a standard item across trauma, sports, and remote area kits where serious wound management is a realistic requirement.

  • High absorbency — controls bleeding and manages heavy wound exudate The multi-layer construction absorbs and retains significant volumes of blood and wound fluid, keeping the wound site covered and protected while bleeding is controlled. For wounds producing more exudate than a standard low-adherent pad can manage, the combine dressing is the correct escalation — it maintains an effective wound covering without becoming saturated and losing function.
  • Sterile, hypoallergenic, and individually packaged Sterile and individually sealed for immediate application without preparation. Hypoallergenic construction reduces the risk of skin reaction at a wound site that is already compromised. The sealed packaging confirms the dressing is uncontaminated at the point of use — replace any dressing whose packaging has been opened or damaged.
  • Available in a range of sizes — small and large wound coverage Available in multiple sizes to suit the wound dimensions being managed. Select the size that covers the wound with adequate overlap on all sides — a dressing that does not fully cover the wound and surrounding skin is not providing complete protection. Check size options at checkout.
  • Required in WHS-compliant first aid kits — standard across trauma and remote kits Combine dressings are a required inclusion in workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice and are a standard item in trauma kits, remote area kits, and sports medical kits where serious wound management is a realistic requirement. Replace after every use. Ships from Dubbo, NSW within 2 business days.
A used combine dressing must be replaced before the next incident — not discovered missing during a WHS audit. Use our First Aid Restock Form to track what has been used and stay audit-ready. FAQs

What is a combine dressing used for in first aid?
A combine dressing is a thick, highly absorbent sterile dressing used to manage wounds with significant bleeding or exudate. It covers and protects the wound site, absorbs and retains blood and wound fluid, and stays in place until professional medical care is available. It is the correct dressing for wounds that are too serious or too large for a standard low-adherent pad.

What is the difference between a combine dressing and a low-adherent pad?
A low-adherent pad is a thin dressing suited to minor wounds with light to moderate exudate. A combine dressing is a multi-layer, highly absorbent dressing designed for wounds with significant bleeding or heavy exudate that a standard pad cannot manage. When a wound is producing more fluid than a low-adherent pad can absorb, the combine dressing is the correct escalation.

Is the AeroWound Combine Dressing sterile?
Yes. The AeroWound Combine Dressing is sterile and individually packaged, ready for direct application to a wound without additional preparation. The sealed packaging confirms the dressing is uncontaminated at the point of use. Replace any dressing whose packaging has been opened or damaged.

What sizes are available?
The AeroWound Combine Dressing is available in a range of sizes to suit both small and large wounds. Select the size that covers the wound with adequate overlap on all sides — a dressing that does not fully cover the wound and surrounding skin does not provide complete protection. Check the size options at checkout.

Is a combine dressing required in WHS-compliant first aid kits?
Yes. Combine dressings are a required inclusion in workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice for First Aid. They are also a standard item in trauma kits, remote area kits, and sports medical kits where serious wound management is a realistic requirement.

About Assurance First Aid Kits

It started back in 2008 when Samantha, a first aid trainer, kept getting the same question from her students: "But what kit should I actually buy?" After years of recommending products that didn't quite hit the mark, she and her partner Dan decided to build one themselves — right here in Dubbo, NSW.

Every kit is hand-assembled by Dan in our Dubbo store using 85% Australian-made components. No cheap fillers, no imported bulk packs — just quality gear that works when it matters most.

Samantha still trains, alongside Max and Neil, delivering nationally recognised first aid courses in Dubbo and surrounding areas. That real-world training experience is baked into every kit we build.

We're not a warehouse. We're not a big box retailer. We're a small Australian team who genuinely care whether you're prepared.
