I'm Sam. Most people know me as Samantha Kerr on paper.

I'm the co-founder of Assurance First Aid Kits and I've been working in emergency care in one form or another since the late 1990s. This business started because I kept getting the same question from my first aid students: what kit should I actually buy? After years of recommending products that didn't quite do the job, my partner Dan and I decided to build one ourselves — right here in Dubbo, NSW.

Every kit we sell is assembled and inspected by hand in our shopfront on Talbragar Street. Not in a warehouse. Not overseas. Here, by us, before it goes out the door.

Where I've come from

I didn't start in first aid. I started in hospitals.

From 1998 to 2000 I worked at Dubbo Private Hospital as a ward clerk, theatre clerk and medical records clerk. That was my first real look at what happens when something goes wrong and the system kicks in. I moved to Brisbane Waters Private Hospital and took on the same roles, and later worked as an assistant in nursing in the medical ward. That's where I spent two years as a nursing student before I switched direction and focused entirely on first aid and emergency care.

That shift was the right one.

Dubbo VRA

I served the community through the Dubbo VRA — Volunteer Rescue Association — as a communications officer and event manager, and for a period as Vice President. The VRA is where I learned what it actually means to be prepared. Not prepared in theory. Prepared when someone's life depends on what's in your kit and whether you know how to use it.

AIRMED Aeromedical Patient Transport

After the VRA I spent two years as a patient transport officer with AirMed, the aeromedical patient transport service operating across regional NSW. Every transfer I managed involved patients who needed more than basic first aid. I saw first-hand what happens when people have the right equipment and the knowledge to use it — and what happens when they don't.
That experience is baked into every kit I build.
