Description

Scissors in a first aid kit are not an optional extra — they are a required tool, and a kit without them fails the WHS standard. The right scissors for first aid work are sharp enough to cut bandages, gauze, tape, and dressings cleanly in a single pass, and blunt-tipped so they can be slid under a dressing or along skin without causing a secondary injury. These 13cm Stainless Steel Sharp/Blunt Scissors are exactly that — the correct specification for first aid use, in the correct size for any kit.

The sharp/blunt configuration is not a compromise between two designs — it is the purpose-built first aid scissors design. Sharp blade for clean cuts under pressure. Blunt tip for safe use close to skin and wound sites. Stainless steel for durability, easy cleaning, and a service life that outlasts any restock cycle.

  • Sharp blade, blunt tip — the correct first aid scissors configuration The sharp blade cuts cleanly through bandage, gauze, tape, clothing, and dressing material without tearing or dragging. The blunt tip allows the scissors to be slid under a dressing, clothing, or bandage close to the skin without risk of puncturing or cutting the patient. In a first aid response where speed and safety both matter, this is the scissors design that delivers both — not a trade-off between them.
  • Stainless steel — durable, easy to clean, built to last Stainless steel construction withstands repeated cleaning with antiseptic wipes or isopropyl alcohol without corrosion or degradation. A quality pair of stainless steel first aid scissors outlasts every restock cycle — replace only if the blades become misaligned or dull. The tool that is in the kit every time it is needed, not replaced on a schedule.
  • 13cm compact size — fits any first aid kit At 13cm, these scissors fit in any standard first aid kit bag, tackle box, or vehicle kit without taking up space that dressings and bandages need. Long enough for controlled cutting with adequate leverage, compact enough for kit storage without a dedicated pouch or holder.
  • WHS required — a kit without scissors is not compliant Scissors are a mandatory inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice. A kit without scissors is not audit-ready — and improvising with a pocket knife or craft scissors during a first aid response is not an acceptable substitute. Clean after each use before returning to the kit. Ships from Dubbo, NSW within 2 business days.
WHS audits check for proper cutting tools in every kit. Use our First Aid Restock Form to track kit contents and stay audit-ready. Browse the full first aid kit supplies range for individual restock items.

FAQs

What are sharp/blunt scissors used for in first aid?
Sharp/blunt scissors are the standard first aid scissors design. The sharp blade cuts cleanly through bandages, gauze, tape, dressings, and clothing without tearing. The blunt tip allows the scissors to be slid under dressings, bandages, or clothing close to the skin without puncturing or cutting the patient. They are used for dressing preparation, bandage cutting, tape trimming, and clothing removal in first aid responses.

Why are scissors required in a WHS-compliant first aid kit?
Scissors are a mandatory inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice for First Aid. They are a basic tool required for dressing application, bandage cutting, and tape trimming — tasks that cannot be performed safely or effectively without the correct cutting tool. A kit without scissors does not meet the standard and is not audit-ready.

Why does the blunt tip matter?
The blunt tip allows the scissors to be safely slid under a dressing, bandage, or item of clothing that is in contact with the skin — without the risk of the tip puncturing or cutting the patient during removal. In a first aid response where the patient may be moving or in pain, the blunt tip is the safety feature that prevents a secondary injury during what should be a controlled procedure.

How do I clean these scissors after use?
Clean stainless steel scissors thoroughly after each use with an antiseptic wipe, isopropyl alcohol, or soap and water before returning to the kit. Stainless steel withstands repeated cleaning without corrosion or degradation. Replace only if the blades become misaligned, dull, or damaged.

Will these scissors fit in a standard first aid kit?
Yes. At 13cm these scissors fit in any standard first aid kit bag, tackle box, or vehicle kit without displacing other items. The compact size provides adequate leverage for controlled cutting while remaining practical for kit storage.

How quickly does this ship?

About Assurance First Aid Kits

It started back in 2008 when Samantha, a first aid trainer, kept getting the same question from her students: "But what kit should I actually buy?" After years of recommending products that didn't quite hit the mark, she and her partner Dan decided to build one themselves — right here in Dubbo, NSW.

Every kit is hand-assembled by Dan in our Dubbo store using 85% Australian-made components. No cheap fillers, no imported bulk packs — just quality gear that works when it matters most.

Samantha still trains, alongside Max and Neil, delivering nationally recognised first aid courses in Dubbo and surrounding areas. That real-world training experience is baked into every kit we build.

We're not a warehouse. We're not a big box retailer. We're a small Australian team who genuinely care whether you're prepared.
