Description

Safety pins are one of the most overlooked items in a first aid kit — and one of the first things checked in a WHS audit. They are a mandatory inclusion under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice, and for good reason. A triangular bandage sling without a pin to secure it will slide. A bandage tail without a pin will unravel. A dressing that needs adapting in the field needs something to hold it in place. Safety pins are the low-cost, lightweight solution to all of those problems — and a kit without them is not compliant.

This bag of 12 medium safety pins with secure metal clasps is sized for standard first aid kit inclusion. Enough for multiple incidents, compact enough to sit in any kit without taking up meaningful space, and straightforward to replace at restock.

  • Required in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits — often the missing item at audit Safety pins are a mandatory inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice for First Aid. They are consistently one of the items found missing during audits — used in an incident, not replaced, and not noticed until the next inspection. A bag of 12 is the correct quantity for kit inclusion — replace promptly after use.
  • Secure metal clasp — holds slings, bandages, and dressings in place The secure clasp prevents accidental opening during use, keeping the bandage, sling, or dressing firmly in position once the pin is fastened. Used to secure the loose ends of triangular bandage slings, hold bandage tails in place when tape is not available, and adapt dressings in the field when the standard dressing format does not perfectly fit the injury site.
  • Medium size — suited to triangular bandage and crepe bandage applications Medium size is the correct specification for the most common first aid applications — securing triangular bandage slings and holding crepe bandage ends in place. Large enough to pass through multiple layers of bandage fabric without bending, small enough to be handled under pressure without difficulty.
  • Bag of 12 — lightweight, compact, easy to restock 12 pins per bag — enough for multiple incidents or a thorough single-incident where several bandage ends need securing. Lightweight and compact, sitting flat in any first aid kit without taking up space. One of the cheapest restock items in any kit and one of the most frequently missed. Ships from Dubbo, NSW within 2 business days.

FAQs

Are safety pins required in WHS-compliant first aid kits?
Yes. Safety pins are a mandatory inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice for First Aid. They are consistently one of the items found missing during annual audits — used in an incident and not replaced before the next inspection. Replace promptly after any use.

What are safety pins used for in first aid?
Safety pins are used to secure the loose ends of triangular bandage slings, hold crepe and elastic bandage tails in place when tape is not available or suitable, and adapt dressings in the field. A triangular bandage sling without a securing pin will slide out of position — the pin is what keeps the immobilisation in place during patient movement and transport.

How many safety pins come in a pack?
Each bag contains 12 medium safety pins — the standard quantity for workplace first aid kit inclusion. Replace the bag promptly after any use to maintain compliance.

What size are these safety pins?
These are medium-size safety pins — the correct specification for the most common first aid applications including securing triangular bandage slings and holding crepe bandage ends in place. Large enough to pass through multiple layers of bandage fabric, small enough to handle under pressure.

How quickly does this ship?
Medium Safety Pins ship from Dubbo, NSW within 2 business days.

About Assurance First Aid Kits

It started back in 2008 when Samantha, a first aid trainer, kept getting the same question from her students: "But what kit should I actually buy?" After years of recommending products that didn't quite hit the mark, she and her partner Dan decided to build one themselves — right here in Dubbo, NSW.

Every kit is hand-assembled by Dan in our Dubbo store using 85% Australian-made components. No cheap fillers, no imported bulk packs — just quality gear that works when it matters most.

Samantha still trains, alongside Max and Neil, delivering nationally recognised first aid courses in Dubbo and surrounding areas. That real-world training experience is baked into every kit we build.

We're not a warehouse. We're not a big box retailer. We're a small Australian team who genuinely care whether you're prepared.
