Description

Rescue breathing without a barrier puts the rescuer at direct risk of cross-contamination from blood, saliva, and airborne pathogens — and the reality is that the health status of a collapsed stranger is unknown. A disposable face shield removes that barrier to action. The one-way valve allows air to pass from rescuer to patient while preventing backflow, and the compact sachet format means it is in the kit and ready to deploy without searching.

For workplace first aid officers in particular, performing CPR on a colleague or member of the public without a barrier is an occupational exposure risk. This face shield is the minimum WHS-required barrier for CPR in a workplace first aid kit — single-use, individually sealed, and compact enough that there is no reason not to have one in every kit.

  • One-way valve — protects the rescuer during rescue breathing The one-way valve allows air to flow from rescuer to patient and prevents backflow of air, saliva, or fluid from the patient to the rescuer. This is the core function of a CPR barrier — protecting both parties during what is an inherently high-contact procedure. Without the valve, a flat face shield provides a partial physical barrier but no protection against backflow.
  • Single-use, individually sealed in a hygienic sachet The sealed sachet confirms the shield is unused and uncontaminated at the point of need. In a cardiac arrest situation, the first aider reaches into the kit and finds a sealed, ready-to-use barrier — not a loose shield of unknown history. Single-use and replaced after every deployment. Compact enough to fit in a shirt pocket or anywhere in a kit.
  • Reduces hesitation — barrier confidence improves CPR willingness Research consistently shows that bystanders and trained first aiders are more willing to perform rescue breathing when a barrier device is available. A face shield in the kit is not just a compliance item — it is the tool that makes a first aider more likely to act fully and effectively when the moment arrives. Compression-only CPR is better than no CPR, but rescue breathing matters in prolonged resuscitation.
  • Required for WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits A CPR barrier device is a mandatory inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice. A face shield meets that requirement in the most compact, accessible format available. Replace after every use. Ships from Dubbo, NSW within 2 business days.
Every workplace kit must include a CPR barrier to meet WHS compliance — and a used shield must be replaced before the next incident. Use our First Aid Restock Form to track what has been used and stay audit-ready. Browse the full first aid kit supplies range for individual restock items.

FAQs

What is a disposable face shield used for in CPR?
A disposable face shield is a CPR barrier device that protects the rescuer during rescue breathing by providing a physical barrier between the rescuer's mouth and the patient's face. The one-way valve allows air to flow from rescuer to patient while preventing backflow of air, saliva, or fluid. It reduces cross-contamination risk for both parties during what is an inherently high-contact procedure.

What is the difference between a face shield and a CPR mask?
A disposable face shield is a flat, compact barrier with a one-way valve, designed for single-use and stored in a small sachet in any first aid kit. A CPR mask is a moulded cup-shaped device that seals over the patient's nose and mouth, providing a more secure seal and typically more effective barrier protection. The face shield is the minimum WHS-required barrier for workplace first aid kits — the CPR mask in a hard case is the upgrade for advanced kits and first responders.

Is a CPR face shield required in WHS-compliant first aid kits?
Yes. A CPR barrier device is a mandatory inclusion in WHS-compliant workplace first aid kits under the SafeWork Australia Code of Practice for First Aid. A disposable face shield meets that requirement and must be replaced promptly after use to maintain kit compliance.

Is this face shield single-use?
Yes. This is a single-use disposable face shield individually sealed in a hygienic sachet. Once opened and used, it must be replaced. Do not return a used face shield to the kit.

Does this face shield fit in a standard first aid kit?
Yes. The face shield is individually sealed in a compact sachet that fits in any standard first aid kit, vehicle kit, or even a shirt pocket. Its compact format means there is no reason not to have one in every kit.

How quickly does this ship?

About Assurance First Aid Kits

It started back in 2008 when Samantha, a first aid trainer, kept getting the same question from her students: "But what kit should I actually buy?" After years of recommending products that didn't quite hit the mark, she and her partner Dan decided to build one themselves — right here in Dubbo, NSW.

Every kit is hand-assembled by Dan in our Dubbo store using 85% Australian-made components. No cheap fillers, no imported bulk packs — just quality gear that works when it matters most.

Samantha still trains, alongside Max and Neil, delivering nationally recognised first aid courses in Dubbo and surrounding areas. That real-world training experience is baked into every kit we build.

We're not a warehouse. We're not a big box retailer. We're a small Australian team who genuinely care whether you're prepared.
