Description

In a food handling environment, a standard flesh-coloured band-aid that falls off is a food contamination incident. A blue detectable band-aid that falls off is found before it becomes one. The A-Care Blue Detectable Bandage is specifically designed for food handling environments — the blue colour provides immediate visual contrast against food products, and the metal-detectable construction means it will trigger detection equipment in food processing and manufacturing facilities if it ends up in the product stream.

Standard band-aids have no place in a food handling first aid kit. If your kitchen, food production facility, catering operation, or food processing site is using standard plasters, you have a food safety gap. This is the correct product for that environment — and the one that satisfies food safety auditors.

  • Blue colour — immediately visible against food products The bright blue colour provides clear visual contrast against virtually all food products, making a detached bandage immediately identifiable during food preparation, processing, or inspection. In a food safety audit or HACCP assessment, visual detectability is a primary requirement for wound coverings in food handling environments — standard skin-coloured plasters do not meet this standard.
  • Metal detectable — triggers food processing detection equipment The metal-detectable construction means the bandage will trigger metal detection equipment used in food processing and manufacturing lines if it enters the product stream. This is the second layer of protection — if the bandage is not found visually, detection equipment will identify it before the product leaves the facility. Required in facilities with metal detection as part of their food safety program.
  • Latex-free and hypoallergenic — economy format for high-volume food environments Latex-free and hypoallergenic construction for use in food handling environments where workers may have latex sensitivity and where skin reactions from adhesive plasters create additional handling risks. Economy format provides cost-effective coverage for high-volume food production and catering environments where bandage use is frequent and bulk supply is required.
  • Required for HACCP and food safety compliance in food handling workplaces Food handling workplaces operating under HACCP principles or food safety legislation are required to use detectable wound coverings for staff handling food. A standard band-aid does not meet this requirement. The A-Care Blue Detectable Bandage is the correct product for food industry first aid kits — replace standard plasters in any food handling kit with detectable blue bandages. Ships from Dubbo, NSW within 2 business days.
Required in first aid kits for commercial kitchens, food production facilities, catering operations, bakeries, butcheries, and any workplace where food handling and wound care occur in the same environment. Use our First Aid Restock Form to track what has been used and stay audit-ready. Browse the full first aid kit supplies range for individual restock items.

FAQs

What are blue detectable bandages used for?
Blue detectable bandages are specifically designed for food handling environments where a standard flesh-coloured bandage presents a food contamination risk if it detaches. The blue colour provides immediate visual contrast against food products, and the metal-detectable construction triggers food processing detection equipment if the bandage enters the product stream. They are the correct wound covering for commercial kitchens, food production facilities, catering, and any workplace where food handling and wound care occur in the same environment.

Why can't standard band-aids be used in food handling environments?
Standard band-aids are skin-coloured, making them virtually invisible against most food products if they detach during handling. They are also not metal-detectable, meaning they will not trigger detection equipment in food processing lines. In a food safety audit or HACCP assessment, standard plasters do not meet the requirement for detectable wound coverings in food handling environments.

Are detectable bandages required under HACCP and food safety legislation?
Yes. Food handling workplaces operating under HACCP principles or Australian food safety legislation are required to use detectable wound coverings for staff handling food. The use of standard non-detectable plasters in a food handling environment is a food safety non-conformance that will be identified in a food safety audit.

What does metal detectable mean for a bandage?
A metal-detectable bandage contains a component that triggers the metal detection equipment used in food processing and manufacturing lines. If the bandage detaches and enters the product stream, it will be identified and rejected by the detection system before the product leaves the facility — providing a second layer of protection beyond visual detectability.

Are these bandages latex-free?
Yes. The A-Care Blue Detectable Bandage is latex-free and hypoallergenic, suitable for food handling environments where worker latex sensitivity may be a consideration.

About Assurance First Aid Kits

It started back in 2008 when Samantha, a first aid trainer, kept getting the same question from her students: "But what kit should I actually buy?" After years of recommending products that didn't quite hit the mark, she and her partner Dan decided to build one themselves — right here in Dubbo, NSW.

Every kit is hand-assembled by Dan in our Dubbo store using 85% Australian-made components. No cheap fillers, no imported bulk packs — just quality gear that works when it matters most.

Samantha still trains, alongside Max and Neil, delivering nationally recognised first aid courses in Dubbo and surrounding areas. That real-world training experience is baked into every kit we build.

We're not a warehouse. We're not a big box retailer. We're a small Australian team who genuinely care whether you're prepared.
